Visiting Putra Mosque

About Putra Mosque (Pink Mosque)
Putra Mosque is also known as Pink Mosque due to its iconic pink hue.  Its signature pink dome was constructed with pink granite and was influenced by Safavid architecture found in Iran. The design of the mosque is a blend of Morocco and Baghdad, the carvings are from Egypt the stain glass from Germany. It is made by local Malay craftsmanship. This beautiful mosque is constructed in rose-tinted granite and cengal woodwork on doors, windows and panels.  Whereby, its mimbar and mehrab are crafted with khat or Islamic calligraphy. One of its fascinating feature is that its sound system design is built to focus on the Imam as all its sounds are originating from the direction of the Imam.

Putra Mosque is located at the heart of Putrajaya, which is at edge of Putrajaya Lake and next to Dataran Putra. Three-quarters of the mosque is above the lake, which made as if the mosque is floating on the waters of Putrajaya Lake. This huge mosque can accommodate up to 10,000 worshipers, and its courtyard can accommodate additional 5,000 people.  Putra Mosque is a very popular tourist destination in Malaysia.

Souvenir shop
There are many souvenir shops here. One of it is in Putra Mosque itself (at the entrance). Others are beneath the mosque , which is also known as souq. Prices are reasonable and i can say most of it are cheap comparing to souvenirs at other tourist destinations.
Here are the example of souvenir sold here (some price tag included in the photo)

Admire beautiful surrounding
From the mosque, you can check out the beautiful view of Putrajaya - lake, bridge, skyscrapper and etc. Outside the mosque, you can check out the houses the Malaysian Prime Minister's office and man-made Putrajaya Lake. Not to forget, the large square with flagpoles flying Malaysian states' flags.

Take the escalator next to the mosque for more food, souvenir and activities
  • Selera Putra Food Court - Indoor plaza that offers many food vendors. They have cendol, lobster and durian too!
  • Visit the Souq
There are a lot of  interesting Malaysian souvenirs, attires, bags and etc. Prices are negotiable

  • Playground for kids

  • Cruise Tasik - Putrajaya Cruise
There are 4 types of cruises: Sightseeing, Dine, Charter and Perahu Dondang Sayang
As for the sightseeing cruise, there are 2 types - Normal Sightseeing and Early Bird Sightseeing. Don't get too excited about Early Bird Sightseeing for being lower price, the journey duration is actually shorter than the normal one. Hence, I prefer it to be called Express Sightseeing. For those who have time, I recommend you to take the Normal Sightseeing, to enjoy more places.
